Wanderson joins FC Red Bull Salzburg from Getafe | First interview with our new signing

In Wanderson Maciel Sousa Campos, a player is joining FC Red Bull Salzburg from the spanish Primera Division – and FC Getafe. the 21-year-old winger is joining on a free transfer and has signed a contract running until 2019.

The Belgian and Brazilian citizen made 60 appearances for Lierse in the top division in Belgium before playing for Getafe last season - firstly in the reserve team but then making 21 appearances for the first team. He is training with the squad this morning in Leogang.

Christoph Freund, head of football at FC Red Bull Salzburg, is delighted about the new signing, saying:

Wanderson is a young player with plenty of potential. He's the kind of player we were looking for for the wing - quick, feisty and with a good eye for a team-mate.

Maciel Wanderson, who is to play with the number 94 on his back, says on his new challenge:

I was trying to find things out about FC Red Bull Salzburg and Oscar Garcia beforehand, and I had a very good feeling in the negotiations. I think that with my speed and technique I suit the playing style of this team really well.

a big smile, beaming eyes and a friendly nature. Maciel Wanderson reminds us a little bit of alan, who used to play for salzburg, and makes a very positive first impression. we are already looking forward to seeing how the pacy winger performs on the pitch.

We heard that you have dual Belgian and Brazilian citizenship and you know a few languages?
Yeah that's right! I was born in Brazil, grew up in Belgium and I speak five languages. Portuguese is my native tongue. Then being half-Belgian I also speak French, of course, and also Spanish, Dutch and English. I don't know why but somehow I've always found it easy to pick up languages.
Why did you decide to join FC Red Bull Salzburg?
When my father, who is also my agent, told me that Red Bull Salzburg were interested in me, I was very interested. I asked friends who know the club a little better, and they all told me straight away: "If you have the opportunity to play there, do it." I heard from Leonardo, who played for Red Bull Salzburg for a while and is a good friend of mine, that the structure around the team and the set-up is very professional. I didn't have to think twice about it, and I'm just relieved now that it finally worked out.
What do you know about your knew club, the league and coach Oscar Garcia?
I was trying to find out about this beforehand, of course, and I asked my Spanish team-mates who knew Oscar Garcia. Absolutely everyone speaks very highly about him, both as a coach and a former Barca player. I spoke to him on the phone and had a very good feeling right away! It's an honour to be able to train under him. I don't know all too much about the league yet, and I'll definitely get to know the team a bit better. I am convinced that I will feel really happy here.
How would you describe what kind of player you are?
I am a winger, and, due to my speed and good technique, I think I really suit the playing style of Red Bull Salzburg.

What aims would you like to achieve with FC Red Bull Salzburg?
I think that my motives aren't so different from those that other players have when they sign for this club. I would like to help FC Red Bull Salzburg to retain the league title, firstly, and hopefully also succeed in Europe.
