Fredrik Gulbrandsen INTERVIEW

with his mischievous smile, focused gaze and thighs like a ski racer, Fredrik Gulbrandsen makes an instant impression. he tells in his interview with a strong sense of confidence and great openness what we can expect from our new striker.

Welcome to Salzburg, Fredrik! We are delighted that you have signed to reinforce the Red Bulls' attack. We've heard that you have a reputation as a - so to say - rather powerful player. Is that right?

[Laughs] Yes, probably! I am a centre forward, first and foremost, but I feel very happy on the wing. I can do well off the ball, I can show my strength and speed and can be pretty annoying for opponents when it comes to winning possession off them. And I am, as you've heard [laughs] known for my determined playing style. So yeah, defenders don't knock me over all too easily.

That sounds a little like rugby...

No! I think that as a footballer, I suit the style of Red Bull Salzburg really well, as a lot of teams adopt defensive tactics against determined pressing. To get through the defence you then need to be tough.

Since your compatriot Valon Berisha has played for the Red Bulls, our fans feel that Norwegian players are tough cookies. Is that right?

Absolutely! We can take a lot and we put our heart and soul into our football!

Do you know one another?

Yeah, I know Valon from the youth national teams and now from the national team, and I've talked to him about FC Red Bull Salzburg. He only has good things to say about the club - the team, training, infrastructure. So I already knew how professional things are here, and I'm really pleased to be here.

When you made your first appearance in the Norwegian league in 2009 you were the youngest ever player to play for FC Lillestrom at the age of 16. Can you tell us a little about your football career so far?

I started at FC Lillestrom and played there for six years. At the age of 15 I made it to the first team. Afterwards I went to Molde FK, where in three fantastic years, I was able to win the cup twice and league once. I have experience in winning titles and Red Bull Salzburg is a club that seeks to do exactly that, win titles.

Are there any people who have supported you in special ways throughout your career?

Yeah, my father! He was a professional footballer himself and even played in Austria for a short while - at SV Ried, to be precise. He has always been there to lend me a hand. I also have a lot to thank my last coach at FK Molde, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, for. He signed me three years ago, and I have really developed under him. I decided that it's time to make the next step, and I therefore decided to join Red Bull Salzburg. I want to test myself against the best teams in Europe on the European stage - and the best environment I have found for me to achieve this aim is here.
