just like last season, the austrian title could be decided in the 33rd game week of the Tipico Bundesliga. we are to face SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz this Sunday 6 May 2018 from 16:30 cet at home - in an encounter with the second-placed side and opponents in next week's cup final. the Match at the Red Bull Arena is to be refereed by Julian Weinberger.
First against second – that's what we face in the big Austrian Bundesliga clash of the weekend at home, just three days before we travel to Klagenfurt for the UNIQA ÖFB Cup final, where we will face Sturm Graz again. Another massive week of football is therefore ahead.
Coach Marco Rose says about the aims for the club ahead:
It is important that we now focus on ourselves. We have aims we want to achieve ahead of us in the league and cup. First against second always promises to be special. For us, it's about recovering and regaining strength to put a fresh and hungry team together for Sunday.
It'll be a tough week! As we remember well, Sturm Graz went into the Austrian winter break a point ahead of FC Red Bull Salzburg at the top of the table. The situation has changed since then - with the Red Bulls now eleven points ahead with four matches left to play, allowing them to seal the title if they take any points on Sunday.
For us it would be the fifth league title in a row - something no team has managed before since the Tipico Bundesliga was founded! We are continuing to make history. With our 74 points after 32 matches, we also have a chance of breaking the Austrian Bundesliga's all-time points record (set in 2012/13 by Austria Vienna with 82).
Alexander Walke, Andre Ramalho, Xaver Schlager, Munas Dabbur & Co are the only team this season to remain unbeaten at home. SV Ried in 2008/09 were the last club to manage this feat of going an entire season unbeaten in front of their own fans.
There is an interesting battle in the league's leading assist provides: Andreas Ulmer has provided nine assists in the current Tipico Bundesliga season - with only Peter Zulj (ten) setting up more.
Sturm are in form! SK Puntigamer Sturm Graz have taken 63 points from their first 32 matches of the season. Graz last took that many points in 2010/11.
Everything is therefore set up for an exciting clash on Sunday in the Red Bull Arena!
Andreas Ulmer (thigh problems) will be unavailable against Sturm. There are also several players carrying knocks after yesterday's Europa League match Marseille, who will be assessed in the run-up to Sunday's match.
