Our boys' Euro tips

The French are fancied and one player reckons a surprise is in store

we're all set for a month of excitement as 24 teams are whittled down to one set of european champions. Who's that going to be though? We interrupted our boys' holidays to ask them for their predictions.

Albert Vallci: don't forget the italians!

As always I think it's difficult to predict. If I had to choose, I would say France and Portugal are the favourites. They are both teams that rise to tournaments. If you look at Portugal, it's noticeable how few goals they concede. Up front they have Ronaldo, the best striker of the past decade. Italy are my dark horses. They are always determined and tough opponents who put everything into their matches. When it comes to Austria, it annoys me how much the media are downplaying our chances. I have faith in the team, but a good start will be important.

Jogi Löw's team are similar to our side at the U21 European championship. We weren't among too many people's favourites, but we won the title. Being underestimated is definitely not a disadvantage. The team they'll have to beat along the way is France, as player by player they are the strongest.

Nici Seiwald: Austria will shock europe!

I think that France will be European champions. They don't just have the quality, but also the deepest squad, which could be crucial after such a long season. Austria are my dark horses. We have the right players at the right ages to go far. The draw was kind with the group with Holland, Ukraine and North Macedonia. I think the semi-finals are possible.

Alex Walke: England can gatecrash the party!

France are the top favourites, of course. With their squad, that has to be the case. Close behind them though, I think, are England, who have a lot of players in fantastic form. Germany could be a surprise. They are often seen as a tournament team, but their recent matches haven't created great expectations. You have to consider them contenders though, although I don't think they will go as far as to win it.

Noah Okafor: if it's not france, then belgium!

France will win the Euros. They have the best squad and no excuses. I see Belgium as dark horses, and they aren't under as much pressure. Switzerland also have a very good chance of going far. They are in an even group against Italy, Wales and Turkey that they will progress from. Then they could definitely make the quarter-finals or semi-finals.
