We're back in business!

Clear sense of determination at first training session

Just as we're used to (well, almost) that was the motto as our team began pre-season training today. Andreas Ulmer & Co. stepped onto the training pitch for the first time of 2020/21 in complete numbers, without any major changes of personnel and with tests proving they are in good health. With our boys having completed obligatory performance tests in the past few days, it was finally time for the first pre-season training session.

At 10:00 CET, coach Jesse March welcomed his men under the summer heat. You could see straight away just how much everyone was looking forward to the new season. With his usual good mood and great energy, coach Jesse Marsch said:

We are fresh in our minds and ready to take the next steps. It's a good feeling that we haven't had so many changes and can start the pre-season with this group.

Max Wöber was equally enthusiastic, saying:

We are all healthy and happy to be back in Salzburg and looking forward to it getting going. I am very confident that we can achieve a lot with this team. It is definitely an advantage that we are are already well gelled. If you feel comfortable in a team, it's easier to play right away.

New signings in first Training session

Taking part was new signing Oumar Solet, who is still training individually, but is already in good physical shape, as Jesse Marsch revealed:

Oumar is a great talent. He still needs a bit of time after his cruciate ligament operation six months ago. He is strong though and battled his way through the physical tests. He is a good lad, and I have a very positive impression of him.

Also taking part were the returning Smail Prevljak (recently on loan at KAS Eupen/BEL) plus Nicolas Seiwald and Junior Adamu, who are going to be training permanently with the Red Bulls in future while remaining available for selection by FC Liefering as cooperation players. Youngsters Amar Dedic, Peter Pokorny and Luka Sucic also have a chance to prove their ability in the coming weeks. The return of Antoine Bernede, who is hoping to get stuck into things in the new season after a number of injuries in the last campaign, also feels like a new signing.

A month from now we are due to face our first competitive match of the new campaign with the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup (draw to be made this Saturday), before the first international break. That we won't start the Austrian Bundesliga until 11-13 September is a circumstance that we are glad to have, as Christoph Freund says:

After the lockdown it was very intensive. The boys were able to spend three weeks recovering well. We went into our holidays with a lot of positive energy and are coming back today with a lot of verve. We will use the pre-season well.

Four friendly matches are scheduled, including against some big name opponents. The highlight of the pre-season friendlies will be the clash against Ajax on 22 August in the Red Bull Arena (live on ServusTV).
