from the Glitz and the Glamour to the gritty business of the austrian bundesliga. ried are visiting the Red Bull Arena and they want to battle us for the three points.
It all started according to plan. A win against Hartha Wels, which was comfortable in the end, a triumph against Sturm Graz after a heroic comeback and the crowning glory as emotion returned to our Red Bull Arena against Atletico Madrid. Can we keep that emotion when we battle SV Ried for three points on Sunday? That is the task our boys have to face. Zlatko Junuzovic put it aptly, saying: "Atletico, Ried, Barcelona? The most important of these three matches is Ried. There are three points at stake in that one!“ It'll be anything but easy against the Vikings, who beat Austria Vienna in their first match of the season. They have the chance to start the season with two wins for the first time since 2010.
Ried tend to have a torrid time against our Red Bulls, however. From the last 20 Austrian Bundesliga meetings, they have won just one. We have scored in all of our past 37 home league matches, putting us just four games behind the all-time record set by Rapid Vienna between 1983 and 1986.
There is great excitement ahead of our second in a series of four home matches in a row! With the return of Noah Okafor, who got playing time against Atletico again, we have numerous options in attack. The same can be said for everywhere around the pitch though. There is a real battle for places in the team, as Nici Seiwald said in the press conference. His position appears secure at the moment, even if Matthias Jaissle is spoilt for choice.
You can be among the first to find our our team for the home match against Ried in our App. Live updates will be provided on our English club Twitter channel from 16:50 CET.
Mergim Berisha (groin), Sekou Koita (knee) and Albert Vallci (achilles) are out due to injury. Bernardo and Maurits Kjaergaard are out with adductor complaints.
Matthias Jaissle on …
… the importance of the Ried match:
Simply because there are three points at stake against Ried on Sunday, this match is much more important for us than what may seem like highlights against Atletico and Barcelona. We know exactly what it's about on Sunday and we are well prepared for the match.
… the way the season has gone so far with wins in the cup, the Austrian Bundesliga and friendly v Atletico:
Wins always help! From that point of view we are really pleased with the way it has gone. The boys are doing a really good job. We are therefore going into the match with our heads held high and with the aim of taking three points against Ried.
Nicolas Seiwald on …
… the match against Ried:
We can't underestimate Ried. That would be our biggest mistake. We need to go 100% into the match and 90% wouldn't be enough. We are determined to win and prolong our run of scoring at least once in 37 home matches. We will give everything for that.
… the way his season has gone:
The season has felt really good for me so far. We have done well in the first two competitive matches as a team with two wins, and I played 90 minutes twice. That's fantastic, and I'll be happy to keep that going.
