Young Bulls drawn with Derby in last 16

Salzburg at home in UEFA Youth League clash

The draw in Nyon today paired the FC Red Bull Salzburg U19 team with another set of English opponents in Derby County FC. After Salzburg's dramatic penalty shoot-out win in the play-off against defending champions FC Porto, they therefore face another stern test in the UEFA Youth League. Derby County won the English youth league last season and beat Borussia Dortmund in the last round.

The last 16 will be held over a single leg on Tuesday 3 March 2020 or Wednesday 4 2020 in Grödig, with the Young Bulls enjoying home advantage. The exact kick-off time will be determined together with broadcasters.

Should Salzburg make it past Derby County FC, they would also be at home in the quarter-finals against the winners of Atalanta v Olympique Lyon.

Frank Kramer:

You saw in the autumn with the two matches against Liverpool FC the level of English youth football. It is a fantastic challenge for us to go up against the English champions in a knockout match. We know the kind of test we can expect from them - there is no question of that. We also know that if we can put in a top performance we are capable of beating any team at this level and making another statement. We are proud to be in the last 16 along with so many of the best youth teams in Europe. That is testament to the work we are doing here!
