Benjamin Sesko to move next summer

End-of-season transfer to Leipzig

The rumours have swirled in recent weeks and months around Benjamin Sesko, who has been linked to several top clubs. The speculation can now end, however, with the 19-year-old's future resolved.

Benjamin Sesko is to play for us in the 2022/23 season before moving to RB Leipzig. Sesko is signing a five-year contract with the German side running from the 2023/24 season.

The big striker came to Salzburg in the summer of 2019 from NK Domzale in his native Slovenia, and he has played for the Red Bull Academy U18 team (scoring seven goals in five appearances), as a co-operation player at FC Liefering (22 goals in 44 appearances) as well as in the UEFA Youth League (scoring two goals in eight appearances). Sesko was promoted to the first-team squad at the start of the 2021/22, and he has scored 12 goals for us so far already in 39 matches. Benji has started every match so far this season.

Benji is a player with incredible potential and talent. It is no surprise that the biggest clubs in the game are aware of this. There has been a lot of talk about a transfer in recent months and a lot of speculation about his future. To help us plan ahead, we have clarified his future in advance, which is also in the player's interest and important for him. Benji is pleased to be fully focused now together with us on our big aims and challenges ahead this season in the league, cup and Champions League.

Sporting director Christoph Freund

I have read and heard so much about me in recent weeks, and a lot of it had no basis in reality. In order to end the speculation and fully concentrate on my tasks here at FC Red Bull Salzburg, it was important for me to arrange the next steps in my career already. I wanted to gain clarity as soon as possible on the way ahead. Absolutely nothing has changed for me personally otherwise, and I will still give everything for FC Red Bull Salzburg as we have a lot of plans this season.
