Transfer confirmation: Karim Adeyemi to Dortmund

Departure after four years together

It is now confirmed. The incredible time of Karim Adeyemi as a Red Bull is ending with the current season, as the 20-year-old striker is to move to Borussia Dortmund. He has signed a contract lasting until 2027 with the side currently second in the German Bundesliga.

From FC Liefering to the UEFA Champions League

The German with incredible pace joined Salzburg in summer 2018 as a 16-year-old youth player, and first appeared for our co-operation club FC Liefering. His 15 goals and 12 assists in 35 appearances there soon saw him move on to greater things.

Karim has made 92 appearances for us so far, in which he has scored 33 goals and provided 23 assists. He is top scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga currently this season with 19 goals, and he also scored four times in our incredible UEFA Champions League campaign.

Adeyemi was able to win six titles in his four years in Salzburg (3x Bundesliga, 3x Cup), and has more than made a name for himself in his homeland. He helped Germany U21 to win the European championship, before scoring on his debut for the German national team at the age of 19.

Joining the ex-Salzburg ranks at Dortmund

Karim Adeyemi will meet up with several former Salzburg men at his new club in Marco Rose, Alexander Zickler, Rene Maric and Patrick Eibenberger (athletics' coach) plus Erling Haaland.

Sporting director Christoph Freund says:

I can remember really well when Karim first joined us. He was a young, funny and courteous boy with huge amounts of talent. He has developed superbly in his four years with us, and has achieved incredible things. His many titles, his first goal in the Champions League and his debut goal for the German national team are definitely milestones in his career.

As a guy, Karim has remained his old self, however, and has barely changed his personality. He is still the same down-to-earth good guy who is extremely well liked by the rest of the team and the fans. We are losing a great person and footballer, who we wish all the very best for the rest of his career from the bottom of our hearts!

Karim Adeyemi says, on his final few weeks in Salzburg:

It is not easy for me to find the right words so soon before the end. What I would like to say though is that I am extremely grateful to FC Red Bull Salzburg and everyone who has shared the past four years with me. I have experienced and learned so much in this time - some of which is somehow still hard to believe.

There is no time in football to feel sentimental, however, as I have to take my next step. It was important for me that I could leave FC Red Bull Salzburg having achieved another big aim for the season - I am leaving the club as a double winner, and that feels fantastic.
