it's now official: Zlatko Junuzovic is leaving SV Werder Bremen on a free transfer, having turned down a new contract, and signed a deal with us running until 30 June 2021.
The 30-year-old has spent six and a half years at the German Bundesliga club, for whom he made a total of 198 competitive appearances (scoring 22 goals and providing 54 assists). Last season he was captain of Werder Bremen and is regarded as a key performer and model pro, who was never sent off during his time in Bremen. Sladdi was keenly sought in the transfer market and had a wide range of offers.
Zlatko Junuzovic has huge international experience too. Having played in 27 European matches (for Austria Vienna and GAK), the attacking midfielder made 55 appearances for the Austrian national team, before he decided to end his international career last September.
Sporting director Christoph Freund says on the transfer:
We have signed an absolute top player in Zlatko. He has great quality and lots of experience, which is going to be an important factor for our many young players. You could notice in our negotiations that he has followed FC Red Bull Salzburg very closely over the past few years and is impressed. As always, it makes sense to wait for the official information of the club, as neither the rumoured contract duration nor the fanciful salary figures match the reality.
Zlatko Junuzovic is delighted about his new engagement:
I had long discussions with the representatives of the club, in which the philosophy and the role I should play in the further development of the club and its many talents was explained in detail. To be able to play a part in this journey is exciting for me and a great challenge.

welcome to salzburg, Juno!
