African Cup trio make last 16

Nene, Koita and Konate still in AFCON hunt

Sekou Koita, Dorgeles Nene and Karim Konate can still dream of lifting the AFCON trophy. Mali and Ivory Coast have both qualified for the last 16, albeit in very different ways.

Mali were undefeated group winners (with one win and two draws) as they made the last 16, while Ivory Coast secured their spot in the knockout stages as one of the four best third-placed sides. The 2-0 win to open the tournament against Guinea-Bissau was enough for the hosts after defeats against Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.

New coach needed for last 16

The AFCON last 16 will see Ivory Coast face Senegal on Monday (21:00 CET). Konate & Co will have a change on the sidelines with coach Jean-Louis Gasset dismissed by the Ivorian football association after the group stage.

Koita and Nene are due for action with Mali on Tuesday (18:00 CET) against Burkina Faso
