Alexander Schlager returns to Salzburg

27-year-old from Salzburg to boost our goalkeeping ranks

We have signed a new goalkeeper for the new season in Alexander Schlager. The 27-year-old from Salzburg is arriving in the summer from LASK and has signed a contract with our Red Bulls until 30 June 2027.

From Salzburg to Salzburg

Alex Schlager learned the art of goalkeeping in Salzburg, having gone through all the age grades at the Red Bull Football Academy (winning three league titles). His career then led him to FC Liefering, and then to RB Leipzig's U19 side, SV Grödig, FAC and then LASK, for whom the 1.84-metre goalkeeper made 213 appearances over close to four years. The man from Salzburg has also made seven appearances for the Austrian national team.

We are pleased about Alex's decision and his move to us - he is returning to where he began his career and coming back home. We have gained a strong and experienced goalkeeper, who will take an important role not only on the pitch but also in the dressing room. We value his qualities as a goalkeeper as well as a person and a key player.

Sporting director Christoph Freund

It's an incredible feeling for me to be returning to Salzburg. I spent my entire youth here and had the aim then of becoming an FC Red Bull Salzburg player. I didn't get the chance at the time and took a different path. I am proud to now become a part of the team. I am extremely pleased to be coming back and able to play football at the very highest level.
