All our Players of the Month in 2022

Philipp Köhn grabbed a lot of them

As we did not have any competitive matches in December, unfortunately it didn't make sense to run our usual Player of the Month award this time. We want to take the opportunity though to look back on who managed to claim the honour over the past year.

The results - there were five different winners in the nine months we had an award. You lot showed that you know football is a lot more than just sticking the ball in the back of the net, with a goalkeeper, a defender, two midfield stars and a striker taking the gong. Our man between the sticks, Philipp Köhn, had a particularly good year though ...

Our Players of the Month for 2022

February & March – Philipp Köhn

Philipp took his first Player of the Month trophy in February with 53% of the vote. The Swiss international shot stopper had a particularly happy time in our home tie against Bayern as we held the German champions to a draw. It wasn't the last honour he took - just a month later, Philipp got his hands on the trophy for a second time.

April & May – Luka Sucic

Just like Philipp, Luka took two Player of the Month gongs on the trot in the spring. April saw a really tight battle between him (with 6,700 votes) and Nici Seiwald (5,700). The Croat scored a stunner in our cup final win in May, which helped him to a whopping 64.64 % of the votes, followed by Rasmus Kristensen (14.28 %).

July – Benjamin Sesko

He scored our first goal in competitive football in 2022/23, our first of the Austrian Bundesliga campaign as well as the winner in the season-opening friendly match v Liverpool. With 78% of the votes, the Slovenian raced to a clear win.

August – Dijon Kameri

Our regular from the Red Bull Football Academy conquered the hearts of our fans this August, taking the Player of the Month trophy at his first attempt with 57% of the vote. His first goal for our Red Bulls in a cup match against Union Gurten provided a real feast for the eyes.

September – Amar Dedic

Another of the brilliant new boys this season scooped the award in September, as Amar took the honour. The Bosnian had been on loan to WAC last season and showed since his return in the summer that he has the potential to star for our Red Bulls too. As a right-back he kept the likes of Rafael Leao and Rahem Sterling quiet in the UEFA Champions League. He was honoured with a sensational 72% of the vote.

October & November – Philipp Köhn

Philipp repeated his feat from the spring by taking another pair of back-to-back honours in the autumn. Thanks to his incredible saves in the UEFA Champions League group stage, the Swiss international took some 52.84 % of a record 14,000 votes in October - to win the Player of the Month title narrowly ahead of Junior Adamu. Philipp then saw off Nici Seiwald in another close battle in November.
