The incredible spring of Luka Sucic

Another international call-up

Goals by the bucket load was presumably one of Luka Sucic's New Year Resolutions. The Croat's winning goal in the Austrian Klassiker against Rapid last weekend was just another small part in an incredible goalscoring run in 2022 - which has seen him again called up by his national team for their UEFA Nations League fixtures in June. On being asked if he will start for them with a brief to score goals, Luka had to chuckle …

We'll see. I hope so, of course!

Luka Sucic

Luka had scored two goals for us this season before the New Year, one in each of the Champions League and the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. He wasn't able to get on the scoresheet in the Austrian Bundesliga before the winter break. He changed that in his first appearance of 2022 against WAC by scoring the match winner in stoppage time!

The Croat continued in the same vein in the next match against Altach. The 19-year-old had a wonderful April in which he scored five goals in four matches. In the cup final against Ried, Luka was there again to smash us into the lead with a great long-range effort. Where did this sudden penchant for finding the net come from?

I think it is because I mostly play in the number 10 position now. It's a bit more attacking than it used to be.

The goal in the cup final was the best for me. To play in a final and score a goal like that - it just can't get any better!

Luka Sucic

His shots are almost impossible to stop, his opponents are inevitably left in a daze. Luka has instantly latched onto many a precise pass from Noah Okafor, Nici Seiwald & Co to smash the ball in. He'll be looking for more of the same in the final match of the season against Klagenfurt, for his national team and next season too …
