Top talent joins FC Red Bull Salzburg

Lucas Gourna-Douath leaves AS Saint-Etienne for the Red Bulls

We have signed a new midfielder, Lucas Gourna-Douath. The 18-year-old French youngster is joining from AS Saint-Etienne and has signed a contract with the Red Bulls until 30 June 2027.

Despite his young age, Lucas Gourna-Douath already has considerable experience with 61 appearances in Ligue 1. He has played for all the French youth national teams and is the current captain of the French U19 national team. The promising new signing will play with the shirt number 27 for FC Red Bull Salzburg.

Sporting director Christoph Freund says on the transfer:

In Lucas, we have been able to attract a highly talented player to Salzburg, who is the current captain of the French U19 national team. Despite only being 18, he has already made 61 appearances in League 1, which is quite extraordinary. Despite many clubs being interested in him around Europe, he has decided to join FC Red Bull Salzburg. This shows what a good name we have made for ourselves across Europe for developing absolute top talents. Just like with any other new player, we will give him the time he needs to settle in and adjust to us in Salzburg.

I am very proud and happy to have signed for such a great club like FC Red Bull Salzburg. I have held good discussions with the staff and the coach, and I feel there is a lot of faith in me. There is a friendly environment here where young players are backed, but they are still an ambitious club in the Champions League. Before completing the transfer I spoke with a few French acquaintances, who only had positive things to say about the club. I am looking forward now to see the club, the stadium and the fans in the flesh, and I hope I can make the most of my potential here.
