Max Wöber moves to Leeds United

24-year-old Austrian international is Premier League bound

Max Wöber is bound for the Premier League! After three and a half great years in Salzburg, the 24-year-old from Vienna is taking on the challenge of signing for Leeds United, penning a five-year contract.

Danke Max!

Max Wöber made a total of 125 appearances for the Red Bulls after swapping Sevilla for Salzburg in summer 2019. He has played in both central defence and left back, scoring nine goals and providing nine assists.

After winning 13 caps for Austria and taking three Austrian Bundesliga and Cup honours, Max will now link up with three former Salzburg men in Yorkshire in Jesse Marsch, Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen.

We have held plenty of discussions with Max in the past about possible transfers, but we continually came to the conclusion that it wasn't the time yet and FC Red Bull Salzburg was the best place for him. It was different this time, and a transfer makes sense for both sides. Max showed over the years with us that he is not only a real leader on the pitch but is a great personality off it. We are delighted that he now has the chance to show what he can do in one of the best leagues in the world. We wish him all the very best for a healthy and successful future.

It was not an easy decision, but I have decided to leave Salzburg. The last three and a half years in this city and at this club really influenced me as a player and a person. The numerous highlights, which I have gained both on and off the pitch, will be remembered by me for as long as I live. If I think back to our first season in the Champions League, our very first match in the competition against Genk or our comeback against Liverpool, then it still gives me goosebumps.

Thank you for all these moments we have enjoyed together. I have grown to love Salzburg and see it as a second home.
