Mohamed Camara moves to AS Monaco

22-year-old to play in Ligue 1

Good things come to those who wait - the transfer of Mohamed Camara has finally been confirmed. The 22-year-old from Mali has joined AS Monaco with immediate effect.

Mo Camara came to Salzburg from Mali in 2018 and first played for our cooperation club FC Liefering (making 35 appearances and scoring four goals ) as well as in our UEFA Youth League team (for whom he made one appearance). A year later, the combative midfielder went on loan to  TSV Hartberg (spring 2019), where his development was delayed by a knee injury.

On his return to the Red Bulls, the man capped 15 times for Mali became an increasingly key figure in our side. A six-month doping suspension (for a positive test during an international break) could not stop Camara's meteoric rise. Last season he performed extremely strongly, with a series of great showings in the UEFA Champions League.

Camara leaves us as a three-time Austrian Champion and three-time Austrian Cup winner after 76 appearances in four-and-a-half years (with three goals and seven assists). He will become a team-mate of former Salzburg attacker Takumi Minamino at AS Monaco.

Sporting director Christoph Freund: "Mo developed in recent years with us into a real lead player and a strong personality. Among other things, he was always one of the players who stepped up to big European matches and took on responsibility. Mo came to us as an unknown shy boy in 2018, as is the case for many of our players, and is going out now into the world of football as a top player who has made a name for himself in the Champions League! We wish him all the very best for his future career. I am sure we will hear plenty more of him."

Mohamed Camara: "It was an incredible time at Red Bull Salzburg, and I have to say thank you for everything. The club and the fans were always behind me, and gave me strength in difficult situations. It was like a family for me here, and I will never forget that. I feel though that now the time has come for me to look for a new challenge in a new league."
