Our boys' preferred Champions League opponents

Vote for yours

A week from now, we will know which three teams we are to face in the UEFA Champions League group stage when the draw is held on Thursday 25 August at 18:00 CET in Istanbul (live on RBS TV). The play-offs are still being contested, so the distribution of teams between different seeding pots can still change a bit. Benfica (who won 2-0 in their first leg against Dynamo Kyiv) are the only team in the play-offs who would be put into pot 3 rather than pot 4.

We are also in the third pot and therefore have a very good chance of facing top opponents at the Red Bull Arena. You still have a chance to get your Blind Date Package for our three Champions League home matches for a special price.

Of course, we would love to find out what you would like to see come out of UEFA's hat in the draw. Below you can vote for your preferred opponents. We have also asked some of our Red Bulls which opponents they would most like to face.

It would definitely be fun to play there.

Maximilian Wöber

Our defensive all-rounder was immediately certain: "Definitely AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Celtic. We have never played an Italian team in the Champions League. Milan are an absolutely legendary team, and it definitely would be really cool to play in the San Siro. It would be well worth travelling to Spurs too with their new stadium in London. Celtic in Scotland, just like Rangers, also have an incredible atmosphere, and it will be a lot of fun to play there."

I would love to play against Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi.

Nicolas Capaldo

"We wouldn't have much chance of winning points, but I would love to play against Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi. Or Porto. In pot 2 it would ideally be a Spanish team, Atletico Madrid or Sevilla."

Our unrelenting Argentinian midfielder is also looking forward to the chance to face his good friend Leonardo Balerdi, who plays for Olympique Marseille. It is not yet certain whether the French side will be in pot 3 or pot 4.

I don't fancy Atletico Madrid.

Maurits Kjaergaard

Maurits Kjaergaard

Our Danish midfielder sees FC Bayern and Manchester City as the most difficult opponents, but would prefer to play the current Champions League winners Real Madrid. He would like to get the chance to travel to England and, of course, his homeland: "I don't fancy Atletico Madrid. My first choice of opponents would be Tottenham. They play really cool football and have a really modern stadium. FC Copenhagen too so that we have Danish opponents."

Real Madrid, as they were my favourite team as a child.

Ignace Van der Brempt

Maurits’s mate Ignace made clear in the latest edition of our half-time in Salzburg feature that he would definitely like to play against his former team-mates at Club Brugge. He would chose holders Real Madrid from pot 1, "as they were my favourite team in childhood." From pot 2, Inni would love to play English opponents, above all Chelsea.

Eintracht Frankfurt would be cool so we can play against Jerry.

Philipp Köhn

Like our Belgian full-back, Philipp Köhn would be pleased to be drawn against Real Madrid. "Eintracht Frankfurt would be funny too so we can play against Jerry [Onguene]." Along with Chelsea, our goalie would like to face Celtic. "I really liked playing them in the Europa League. The atmosphere there is really good!"
