Move to Serie A after nine honours in six years

Valon Berisha is set for a new challenge next season, having moved with immediate effect to lazio in serie a, where he has signed a five-year contract.

Valon made 233 competitive appearances for us, in which he didn't just have a hand in an impressive 110 goals (45 goals and 65 assists), but also won nine honours (5x Austrian champion, 4x Cup winner). In recent years the 25-year-old Kosovar became a key player, having twice in a row been named in the top three players in the Austrian Bundesliga, and was an important pillar in our memorable Europa League run last season.

Sporting director Christoph Freund says on his departure:

Valon has developed in his six years with us into a strong personality and a wonderful footballer. It was clear for us that at some time he would want to move on to take the next step into one of Europe's top leagues. We are proud that he was with us for so long and that he helped shape the club with his exemplary character - both on and off the pitch. We wish him all the best for his future.

Valon Berisha says on leaving:

I had a wonderful time with Red Bull Salzburg and didn't just win a lot of honours, but also got to know lots of amazing people. The crowning glory was making the semi-finals of the Europa League last season. Now it's time for me to take the next step, which is why I am going to Lazio and one of the best leagues in Europe. I would like to thank the club and all the people who supported me and guided me in the six years here. Salzburg will always be a massive part of my career.
