We have extended the contract of Karim Adeyemi! Our 18-year-old youngster has signed a new contract until summer 2024 and has therefore committed to our Red Bulls in the long term.
Karim joinrd Salzburg in the summer of 2018 from Unterhaching and has appeared for both FC Liefering and our UEFA Youth League team. In a total of 38 appearances, Adeyemi has scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists. In spring 2020 he will remain available to Liefering as a cooperation player but will train with Jesse Marsch's first team squad.
Sporting director Christoph Freund says on the contract extension:
In Karim Adeyemi another top international talent has signed a long-term contract with us. The fact that it's not just us who are aware of his extraordinary talent is shown by the approaches that FC Barcelona and other top clubs have made. We are certain that he will take the next step of his development very soon with us, but we will give him the time he needs for that.
Karim, you have extended your contract at FC Red Bull Salzburg despite the interest of a lot of other clubs. What was the decisive thing for you?
I think that Salzburg suits me really well as both a city and a club. I can develop as well as possible here. I have discussed the situation with my family and decided that I'd like to stay here. I am really pleased that everything has worked so well on the club's side too.
Everything has moved very fast for you from the U18s to Liefering up to the first team. Could you have imagined that you would find you way into Jesse's squad so quickly?
No, it really has gone very quickly for me. It is great to be allowed to take the next step here. Jesse has placed his faith in me and given me the opportunity to now go to the training camp in Qatar. I now have to repay this faith.
You have just turned 18 and can look forward to getting your first taste of action for FC Red Bull Salzburg soon. Do you think that you are ready at this level physically despite your young age?
I have often heard that I am able to rise to meet every new challenge. I therefore think I can perform really well in the Austrian Bundesliga. Ultimately it will be my performances that determine how much playing time I get.
On that subject: signing a new contract is always a good time to set personal goals. What are your ambitions for the near future?
I would like to play in the Austrian Bundesliga and represent FC Red Bull Salzburg well in Europe. Generally by just giving my all and proving what I can do.
Thank you for the interview!
