Vitor's diary: Table tennis final tops fun Thursday

Our assistant coach provides exclusive insights from our training camp

Our assistant coach Vitor Matos is using a diary to provide glimpses behind the scenes of our training camp in Saalfelden.

In his fourth diary entry, the 36-year-old Portuguese coach talks about the day gone by and which pair prevailed in the big team table tennis tournament in the evening.

Thursday 11 July 2024

Dear FC Red Bull Salzburg fans,

What a day! A double training session and table tennis tournament at night...🔥

I started the day with a morning run together with our CEO, Stephan Reiter, and with our head of scouting, Johann Eder. It was a beautiful run, but like always with our CEO it was really tough! I would say he does it on purpose😅!

We started the morning with our usual staff meeting. We had some individual Information to share about the players regarding the recovery process and how they might be feeling at the moment. We want them to perform in a transcendence mentality, aim for the best pass, aim for the best timing and the best finish, and for that we need to create the ideal environment from the start, which includes all the people involved.

Today we focused on set pieces, something we consider a game changer! Pep, Chris and Pedro had a really good meeting to organise all the variations and also all the dynamics of the training session.

In the afternoon we decided to create a proper competitive environment in everything we did - from the warm-up on. Andreas Kornmayer, our fitness coach, organised a brilliant warm-up that ended up with two teams competing to score a goal. One player needed to head the ball and then defend the goal as a goalkeeper. That provided some great moments! Then we ended with 'Finals'… a tournament where the team who wins stays on!

Last but not least, we had a table tennis tournament to join all the staff and players together. It was a brilliant competition that everyone really enjoyed, and there was a great spirit among the team!!

Let me say, the standard was really high!! My performance was not the best, but we all put a good effort into it! The final was between the pair of Eddie Gustafsson, our goalkeeper coach, and John Mellberg vs Pep the Gaffer and Kamil Piatkowski! The winners were Pep and Kamil. Let’s just say that Kamil was the man of the match😂

Tomorrow is an important session with our last one before our next friendly match, so...

Des is Soizburg! That is our way!

Until tomorrow,
Vitor Matos
