On with Walke we go: experienced keeper stays

38-year-old German stays

Alexander Walke is to remain a FC Red Bull Salzburg player! The 38-year-old German signed a new one-year contract with us and is therefore set for his 13th season as a Red Bull.

With Walke all the way

Since 2010, Alexander Walke has been a part of our club – asides from a six-month loan to Greuther Fürth. The 1.89-metre German, who long ago established himself in Salzburg and trains with the young goalies at the Red Bull Football Academy, has made 227 competitive appearances and won an incredible 19 honours (10x Austrian champion, 9x Austrian cup winner). Three times (2015/16, 2016/17 and 2017/18) Atze was voted Goalkeeper of the Season in the Austrian Bundesliga.

I am really looking forward to staying at FC Red Bull Salzburg for another year. I have experienced so much in so many years at the club, and it is still so much fun here.

I have a very different role now to the one I had a few years ago, and I know that guiding the young players, especially the young goalkeepers, is an important job to have. I will place my full focus on that next season again.

The position of third goalkeeper is a bit of a special one due to the young keepers we have in the squad, and Alex has filled it superbly. With his manner, the great dedication he shows in every individual training session and experience, he supports the young goalkeepers really well.

Despite his long career, Alex is still in great shape, and we look forward to him remaining an important part of our team next season.
