Our new signing Brenden Aaronson is looking forward to his move to Salzburg with a great sense of anticipation. Before he even gets a chance to put on our kit for the first time, we chatted with our 19-year-old American talent about his past, motivation and future aims.
With typical American straightforwardness he spoke about his admiration for our playing philosophy and the reason why he should fit our system so perfectly:
I am a creative, energetic midfielder that likes to get forward and makes stuff happen by getting assists and goals. I give my everything in each game and work hard defensively as well.
While in the USA there are other sports with a higher profile than soccer, Brenden was sure at an early age that he wanted to be a professional footballer. His father, who played at college level, has encouraged him all the way through. He even founded a team in New Jersey that he still owns. There is only one place Brenden has always wanted to play though:
As an American soccer player you grow up dreaming about playing on the big stage, the Champions League and Europa League. I love how competitive it is over there.
Countless hours in front of the TV since childhood have made Brenden excited by European football, which has always inspired him:
I was watching the Premier League every Saturday and Sunday for the best part of my life. My favourite team has always been Liverpool, so Steven Gerrard became a role model for me. I even had a big poster of him on my bedroom wall. He could score, assist and was always someone who left everything on the pitch.
